Gulls Squeeze Past the Powerful Owls

Gulls Squeeze Past the Powerful Owls

Oct. 30, 2006

Coming off a nice win on Wednesday, the Gulls were anxious to get back on the ice in an attempt to continue the momentum against the Westfield State Owls. At the start of the game the Gulls came out flying, scoring two quick goals on the Owls in the first five minutes of the game. The first goal coming from freshman Brett Erickson on a nice slapper from the top of the circle as he came streaking in from a nice Matt Nardone-Jeff Lallier set-up. The second goal had come just a short minute later when junior defenseman Jeff Lallier took a flutter shot from the point that deflected into the net. The Gulls quick start proved to be the difference in the game, but Westfield didn't back down.

At the conclusion of the first period, the Gulls were up 2-0. coming off a great first period the Gulls came out a bit flat in the first five minutes surrendering a goal, but back came the entire team, more energetic as ever to have Erickson snipe another goal to keep the lead in tact and put the Gulls up again, 3-1. The Owls fought back to close the lead to one by the end of the second. The remainder of the period was a hard fought battle back and forth but with no goals.

The beginning of the third seemed to be promising...and it was! For the remainder of the game, it was a melee of bodies as the Gulls survived the all-out attack of the Owls. Not even a pulled goaltender could save the Owls from their fate at Pingree this night. The game ended with a score of 3-2 as the Gulls won their second straight game and improving their record to 3-2-1. The Gulls travel to New Hampshire on Wednesday @ 9:00 to face powerful UNH team.
