UNH Wildcats Take Down Gulls

UNH Wildcats Take Down Gulls

Nov. 2, 2006

As the Gulls traveled north to Dover, NH to face a strong UNH team, hopes were high amongst all the players. The first period was a battle from the start as there were four goals scored; the first coming from the visiting Gulls on a snipe by junior Chris Garofalo, made possible by a nice dish from freshman Mike Vacca and Matt Guidotti. The rest of the period the Gulls seemed to slow down as UNH came back strong with three goals as the period came to a close.

The second period went underway and the Gulls immediately came back with another goal from Mike Manfredi as he roofed one on the goalie to make it a 4-2 deficit, also in on the goal was senior Ben Dodge and freshman Drew Moore. Seconds later the Gulls continued their relentless attack as sophomore D-man Brad Butcher netted a shot from high in the slot to close the lead to 4-3. UNH came back in the same period to net another two goals as junior Josh Provost struggled between the pipes early ending the second period with the score 6-3.

Coming out for the third period, the Gulls head Coach Dan Haugh replaced Provost with freshman goaltender Matt Murray who had yet to see a shot in a game. For the first 5 minutes of the period Murray looked solid until UNH popped in two goals in front of the net, back to back. Looking a bit shaky, Murray recovered with a bunch of nice saves, as the Gulls netted another two, to make the score 8-5. The goals were scored by Matt Guidotti on a nice tip in front of the net, and Mike Manfredi who cashed in on his second goal of the night. The Gulls looked strong for most of the remaining time of the game until UNH put in another goal past Murray to make the score 9-5. The loss marks the third of the season for the team and an overall record of 3-3-1.

The Gulls return home for a game against a very strong Marist College Saturday, November 4 at 7:00pm
