Gulls Nearly Stunned by Bridgewater State

Gulls Nearly Stunned by Bridgewater State

Jan. 27, 2007

The Gulls hosted Bridgewater State on Saturday night marking their first game back from winter break. Endicott was hoping for the best going into the game with freshman star Drew Moore out due to sickness, as well as Matt Guidotti, Brad Butcher and Jeff Lallier, and several other regular players. Although the injuries were significant, the Gulls were able to put together a lineup that would be able to defeat Bridgewater State.

At the start of the game there was a shock when Bridgewater came out fast and shocking junior goaltender Josh Provost as they went up 3-0 in the first half of the first period. As the game carried on, the Gulls seemed to settle down and once again take control of the game, yet unable to put a goal up on the board.

At the beginning of the second period Bridgewater stole some momentum away as they scored their 4th goal of the game and the Gulls were down 4-0. At this point in the game you would expect a very dismal team spirit and an expected win for Bridgewater State; however the Gulls came back with a goal by Mike Manfredi at the end of the second to send the game into the third period with a three goal deficit.

The third period was a complete overrunning of Bridgewater by the Gulls, as they scored 3 more unanswered goals in order to tie the game with just over six minutes remaining in the game. Heroic goals from Brian Sullivan, Pat Kennedy, and Chris Garofalo helped tie this game up. Regulation ended in a tie as the Gulls completed the comeback and forced the game into overtime. In a 5 minute overtime there isn't much time to put the puck in the net, but with 3:05 remaining in the overtime period, Graduate student and 3rd year captain Adam Partaledis sealed the deal with a beautiful backhand shot from the crease to give his team the win. The heroic comeback by the Gulls was something to watch, as the team never ceases to amaze. The Gulls will travel tomorrow morning to take on Western Connecticut State University, whom they lost to 6-2 last time they faced off.
