Egbert and Rhodes Claim Weekly Honors in CCC Championship Week

CCC Athletes of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Junior captain Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) and freshman Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) were named CCC Player and Rookie of the Week for the Endicott women's tennis team who won both their tournament matches en route to capturing the 2013 CCC Championship.

The conference championship was the fourth for the program as Endicott, playing as the #2 seed, upset a top-seeded Nichols team for the third straight season in the title match.  The Blue and Green will take an 11-3 overall record into next spring's schedule which culminates in a NCAA Division III Tournament appearance next May.

Egbert was a critical part of Endicott's success in both the matches of the CCC Tournament as the Gulls defeated Roger Williams 5-1 in the semifinals and Nichols 5-1 in the finals.  Egbert went 4-0 overal with a pair of wins at both #1 doubles with partner Chrissy Martel (Westbrook, Con.) and #3 singles.  Egbert's most significant match of the week came in the CCC Championship as her #3 singles victory, a 6-2, 6-3 triumph, clinched the win for Endicott.  This is Egbert's first career CCC Player of the Week award.

Rhodes, along with her #2 doubles parter Amy Heacox, scored gritty wins in both the semifinals and finals over their Hawk and Bison opponents.  Rhodes and Heacox showed how to close out a match, taking 8-6 victories to secure 3-0 leads after doubles play for Endicott.  Rhodes is now a three-time CCC Rookie of the Week.
