Emilie Cloutier tabbed as lead captain for 2013-14 women’s tennis squad

BEVERLY, Mass. – Two-time Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) all-conference honoree Emilie Cloutier (Lewiston, Maine) has been named by head coach Jeremy Howard as the next captain for the Endicott women's tennis team for the 2013-14 season.  Cloutier will be the head captain for the two-time defending CCC champion Gulls and will be assisted by a trio of standout juniors in Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine), Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.), and Chrissy Martel (Westbrook, Conn.).

Emilie Cloutier

Cloutier, a rising senior majoring in business, transferred to Endicott for her sophomore season and since then has accumulated an overall record of 45-9 which includes an 18-7 singles and a 27-2 doubles mark.  Her on the court dominance has been recognized by the league as she was named All-CCC First Team Singles (2011, 2012), All-CCC Second Team Doubles (2012), and All-CCC Honorable Mention Doubles (2011).

Coach Howard says, "Emilie has been a full time singles and doubles starter in her two years so far at Endicott, and as the lone senior on the team will primarily lead by example. She is the type of player that no matter what the score is in a match, or what drill she is doing during practice, she competes at 100%."

Natalie Egbert, Amy Heacox, Chrissy Martel

Egbert took a giant step forward in her sophomore season after being named All-CCC Honorable Mention for both singles and doubles in 2011.  Her 11-1 singles record and 9-3 doubles mark earned her First Team Singles and Second Team Doubles recognition by the conference.  For her two-year career, she currently owns an overall record of 47-16.

Heacox has been nearly unstoppable in her two seasons, accumulating an overall record of 54-6 including an undefeated season in 2012-13 (12-0 singles, 11-0 doubles).  For her efforts she was named All-CCC Honorable Mention Singles and Doubles in both 2011 and 2012.  Heacox also earned two points in Endicott's first ever NCAA Tournament victory this past May.

After competing in just five matches freshman year, Martel was relied upon heavily in 2012-13 and responded with a 10-3 singles and 9-3 doubles record.  Mainly a one or two singles and one doubles player, Martel was honored with First Team Singles and First Team Doubles awards from the CCC.  She has an overall record of 26-6 for her young career.

Coach Howard says, "Natalie, Amy, and Chrissy have all had standout careers so far in their first two years at Endicott. Each brings something different to the table in terms of leadership qualities that will prove invaluable over the course of the 2013-2014 campaign."

Cloutier, Egbert, Heacox, Martel, and the rest of the Endicott women's tennis team return to campus in August for preseason and will begin their quest for a third straight CCC Championship with their season and home opener on August 30th against Colby-Sawyer
