Women's Tennis Rallies for 5-4 Win over Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in their spring schedule as the Gulls continue to prepare for their third straight NCAA Division III Tournament appearance by defeating NEWMAC rival Springfield 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon. Endicott erased a 2-1 deficit after doubles play to take four of the six singles matches including a match-clinching victory by junior Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) at the #1 singles position.

Heacox rebounded from a 6-2 opening set loss to take sets two and three 6-4, 6-3 to break the 4-4 match score between Endicott and Springfield. Key singles wins by sophomore Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.), freshman Jamie Zompa (Marlborough, Mass.), and sophomore Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.) all contributed towards the come-from-behind win for the Blue and Green.

Potter, Zompa, and Newman all won in straight sets by Newman battled in her second set with a 7-5 tiebreaker victory to close out #3 singles.

Endicott came out of doubles play with just one point Heacox and her freshman partner Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) held off their Pride opposition 8-4 to keep Endicott within range at a 2-1 deficit heading into singles play.

The Gulls have one final tune up match on Thursday, April 24th on the road against Bridgewater State before they find out their First Round opponent in the national tournament. Their match against Bridgewater State begins at 3:30 pm.
