St. Lawrence Defeats Endicott, 34-9

CANTON, N.Y. – The Endicott football team fell to St. Lawrence University, 34-9, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Leckonby Stadium.

Saints' senior quarterback Mike Lefflbine (Greenwich, Conn.) connected with sophomore wide receiver Patrick Bryant (East Syracuse, N.Y.) on a pair of touchdowns in the first half, while the St. Lawrence defense pitched a shutout over the first 30 minutes of action to eventually earn the win against the Gulls in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Lefflbine finished the contest with 349 yards passing on 35 completions (44 attempts), two touchdowns and one interception. Bryant led all receivers with seven catches for 115 yards – including a 46-yard catch in the third quarter – alongside his two first half TDs.

Junior kicker Kyle Regan (Nashua, N.H.) broke up the shutout for Endicott with 4:53 left to play in the third quarter with a career-long 40-yard field goal. Classmate Jake Pelletier (Trumbull, Conn.) also added a 22-yard touchdown catch from freshmen quarterback Michael Scherer (Middlefield, Conn.) in the right corner of the end zone as time expired in the matchup to highlight the scoring for both squads.

ENDICOTT OFFENSE

  • Sophomore quarterback Sam Ouellette (Rochester, N.H.) went 6-for-31 passing with 75 yards and two interceptions.
  • With 6:01 remaining in the game, Scherer guided Endicott through a 13-play, 86-yard drive in his first-ever action under center for the Gulls. Scherer completed passes to five different receivers and went 6-for-8 total on the drive, which was capped by his 22-yard TD pass to Pelletier.
  • Dante Correa (Plainville, Conn.) also was crucial on the final scoring drive for the Gulls as the freshman running back amassed 24 yards on four rushes.
  • Pelletier finished the afternoon with 67 yards on four catches. Pelletier has recorded 50 or more yards receiving in all three games this season.

ST. LAWRENCE OFFENSE

  • The Saints compiled 425 yards of total offense (349 passing, 76 rushing).
  • St. Lawrence won the time of possession matchup, 35:19 to 24:41 (10:38 differential).
  • Junior tight end Mitch Gallagher (Malone, N.Y.) ranked second on the team in receiving yards with 87 total on seven catches.
  • Sophomore wideout Vincenzo Ferraro (Greenwich, Conn.) hauled in a game-high eight catches for 67 yards.
  • Senior running back Maurice Irby (Freeport, N.Y.) paced all rushers with 59 total yards and one touchdown score, which came at the 8:20 mark of the first quarter (14-0). The Saints also received rushing touchdowns from Gallagher (11:27, 3rd quarter, 27-0) and sophomore Nick Frenger (Massapequa, N.Y.).
  • Senior Brodie Corless (Wallingford, Conn.) was instrumental in the field position game with four punts inside Endicott's 20-yard line.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is 0-2 in games played in New York this season. 
  • The Saints did not allow their opposition to score double-digit points for the first time this year.
  • November 1, 2014 against WPI (20-7) was the last time St. Lawrence held an opponent under double-digit points prior to today.

 BE A POSITIVE INFLUENCE

  • Freshman inside linebacker William Rivera (Orangeburg, N.Y.) and senior cornerback Tyler Calitri (West Hartford, Conn.) led the team in tackles with eight apiece. Rivera had eight solo tackles, in addition to one interception, while Calitri racked up seven solo tackles and one assisted tackle.
  • Rivera has led the Gulls in tackles every game this season.
  • Lawrence Gonzalez (Bedford, Mass.), Mike Romanelli (Lighthouse Point, Fla.), Ryan Brannigan (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Connor McLaughlin (Canton, Mass.) all ranked second on the squad in tackles with six each. 
  • Brannigan highlighted the group as the senior free safety also added one tackle for a loss and a pass breakup to his stat line on the day.
  • Junior defensive tackle Craig Anderson (Franklin, Mass.) recorded two sacks for a total of 19 yards.
  • Sophomore wide receiver Eric Razney (Peabody, Mass.) registered a career-high 50 yards on kickoff returns today.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (0-3) travels to Dudley, Mass. next Saturday to take on Nichols College in a New England Football Conference (NEFC) matchup at 12 p.m. St. Lawrence (2-1) visits Union College next Saturday for a Liberty League (LL) matchup at 1 p.m.
