Box Score

BEVERLY, Mass. - Gordon College scored three runs in the first three innings, and then tacked-on a four run seventh to eliminate Endicott from The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament, 7-2, on Thursday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. The win propels the Fighting Scots into Friday's round of play at Roger Williams against the Hawks.

The visitors scored two runs in the top of the first as Gordon capitalized on an error and a wild pitch to post a two run advantage. Endicott got a run back in the home half of the first frame, as Brian Andersen (Grafton, Mass.) lined-out to center, allowing Andrew Betts (Bristol, Conn.) to score on the SAC fly.

Gordon got the two-run lead back in the third as Christopher Mills (Winchester, Mass.) grounded out to third base, allowing Stephen Myhren (Vernon, N.J.) to score. The Gulls were once again able to cut it to a one-run game as Luis Uribe (Boston, Mass.) reached on a fielder's choice, plating Christopher Carillo (Bethel, Conn.) from third to make the score, 3-2.

Just as the Gulls got back within striking distance, Gordon pieced together a four run rally in the seventh to bust the game wide open. Endicott started the inning with three errors, two of which came on the same play, setting the table for Aaron Whittet (Rye, N.H.). The junior made the Gulls pay as he stroked a two RBI double to left field to extend the Gordon lead. The Fighting Scots would plate another run before the end of the inning as Jonathan Waldie (Methuen, Mass.) grounded out to first allowing a run to come home to give the Scots the 7-2 lead.

The lead would prove insurmountable for the Gulls, as Endicott was eliminated from The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament by its cross-town rival, 7-2.

Gordon was paced by a pair of hits from Glen McElwee (Norfolk, Mass.) and Brett Morgan (Huntington, Mass.). Whittet ended the day with two RBIs and a run scored for the visitors. Myhren hit 1-for-4 with two runs scored to extend his hitting-streak to 20-straight games.

Endicott had six players register a hit in the defeat. Colin McGinn takes the loss as he tossed six innings of four hit, seven run ball for the Blue and Green. Endicott committed four errors in the 7-2 setback.

With the win, Gordon advances to meet top-seeded Roger Williams on Friday afternoon. The Hawks were upset by No. 4 Wentworth, 16-3, on Thursday. Endicott closes out the tournament portion of its season with a 19-20 overall record.
