CCC Athlete of the Week Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- After a four win week that included a come from behind five set victory over the top team in the region, the Endicott women's volleyball team sweat the weekly Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) awards as announced by the conference office on Monday. Hayley Knapp (Valencia, Calif.), Erika Trudon (Coventry, Conn.) and Cydney Pierce (Santa Barbara, Calif.) were named Player, Defensive Player, and Rookie of the Week respectively for their stellar play.
Knapp, a sophomore, won CCC Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career after averaging 2.82 kills and 0.71 blocks per set in a 4-1 week for the Gulls. The middle hit at a .227 clip for the week as she notched a career high 15 kills, and a match-high .357 average in a five-set win over Springfield, ranked atop last week's NEWVA poll. She also added a team high 12 kills and four digs in a three-set win over Bates.
Fellow sophomore Erika Trudon won CCC Libero of the week for the second time in 2014, having won the honor on September 2nd, which also led to her receiving ECAC Libero of the Week honors the same week. Trudon averaged 4.83 digs per set and added 12 aces on the impressive week for the Gulls. Trudon recorded team high dig totals in all but one of the matches and recorded 15 in the five set victory over Springfield and 17 against Bates in a 3-0 win.
Endicott College freshman defensive specialist Cydney Pierce averaged 2.65 digs per set in five matches last week and was nearly perfect on receive, awarding her CCC Rookie of the Week honors. Her best performance was a 17-dig effort in a five set win over Springfield. Pierce was second on the team with 11 digs against MIT and finished the week second on her team with 45 digs in 17 sets while also receiving at a .933 clip on 60 attempts.
