CCC TOURNAMENT: Women’s Tennis Looks To Capture Fifth Straight CCC Title

BEVERLY, Mass. – Winners of the last four CCC championships, the first-seeded Endicott women's tennis team will begin its title defense against fourth-seeded Nichols on Thursday, October 8 at 2 p.m. in the CCC Tournament semifinals.

PREVIOUS MATCHUP: The Gulls defeated Nichols in convincing fashion earlier this season on September 22 by a 9-0 score. At that time, Endicott claimed its fourth straight shutout victory and fifth shutout win out of eight on the season. BOX SCORE | RECAP

PLAYOFF HISTORY: Endicott has defeated Nichols all four times during its current CCC title run picking up three wins by 5-1 scores (2012-14), and another victory by a 5-3 score (2011). The last team other than Endicott to win the CCC championship is Nichols, who won its first-ever CCC championship in 2010 over Roger Williams by a 5-0 score.

ENDICOTT (10-2, 8-0 CCC) | STATISTICS | SCHEDULE: The Gulls went 8-0 for the second straight season in CCC play behind freshman and CCC Player of the Year Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.). Endicott also saw freshmen Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine)Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.), and Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.), sophomore Maxine Bergstein(Hingham, Mass.), and junior Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) all picked up All-CCC honors as well.

NICHOLS (8-4, 5-3 CCC) | STATISTICS | SCHEDULE: The Bison defeated No. 5 Western New England University, 5-0, in the CCC Tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday, October 6 to keep its postseason hopes alive. Nichols has been led by sophomore Lauren Candia (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) who claimed All-CCC singles first team and doubles second team honors earlier this week. Fellow teammates Ashley Dallaire (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Cristina Szepanski (Windsor Locks, Conn.), and Daniela Saldarriaga (Medellin, Colombia) also earned All-CCC laurels for the Bison.
