INTERNSHIP INSIGHT: Jaira Paine Solidifies Her Calling With Lacrosse The Nations

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College is a pioneer in requiring comprehensive internship experiences for undergraduate students in every program of study. Jaira Paine (Granby, Conn.), who is an international studies major and member of the women's lacrosse program, recently completed an internship at Lacrosse the Nations (LtN). Here's a look into her internship experience as a Program & Development VISTA Summer Associate with LtN.

1) Why Lacrosse the Nations?

I chose to intern for Lacrosse the Nations because it was a seemingly perfect combination of my strengths. As an international studies student with an interest in humanitarianism and an athlete, I thought this would be a great opportunity to not only travel and learn, but to apply my skills in the nonprofit workforce.

2) What was the process like to obtain your internship?

I found this internship with help from my internship advisor online. I started looking for internships early to secure one right away. I filled out an internship application and sent an initial email with my resume to the Executive Director of Lacrosse the Nations. From there, I had a series of Zoom Interviews with various levels of positions in the organization and waited for a response from them!

3) Describe your overall internship experience.

The experience was nothing short of incredible. It allowed me to venture out into my interests professionally and personally. It also allowed me to share my passion and love for lacrosse abroad. It felt nice to be able to grow the game while continuing to further my career.

4) What have you learned from your internship?

I learned a TON from this internship about the inner workings of nonprofit organizations, coaching, and life in general.

5) How will this internship help you in your career moving forward?

Interning for LtN solidified my love for international studies and opened doors for international business to be a part of my repertoire. I now have knowledge and experience working abroad for a non-profit and it will act advantageously in continuing my studies.

6) What skills were you able to apply from your academic background at Endicott directly to this internship?

Time management, document writing, and language skills were all very helpful during my time in Panama.
