CCC SEMIFINALS: No. 2 Endicott vs. No. 3 University of New England Women's Lacrosse Preview

BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 2 seed Endicott women's lacrosse team will meet No. 3 University of New England  in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) on Wednesday, May 4th at Hempstead Stadium at 4:00 p.m.

The Gulls (7-9 overall) earned the second seed in the conference tournament after posting a 6-2 record in CCC play and are making a postseason appearance for  the 17th time in program history.

PREVIOUS MATCHUPS

ALL-TIME SERIES NOTES

  • The Gulls are 16-5 all-time and 9-2 at home all-time against UNE, dating back to the 2001 season.
  • Endicott has won 16 straight against the Nor'easters coming into today's game.

PLAYOFF HISTORY 

  • The Gulls and Nor'easters have squared off in the postseason four times, with the most recent meeting being a 19-6 victory for Endicott in Beverly, Mass. on May 1, 2013 in the CCC Semifinals.

POSTSEASON HISTORY

In her second season at the helm, head coach Morgan Maciewicz (18-15) has led the Gulls to back-to-back postseason appearances, as Endicott is coming off a 15-6 loss to Roger Williams in the CCC Semifinals that snapped a streak of nine straight conference titles brought home to Beverly from 2006 to 2014. The Gulls have made a conference postseason tournament in 17 of 21 seasons as a varsity program at Endicott and have competed in 11 championship games in this span.

NEED TO KNOW

ENDICOTT (7-9, 6-2 CCC) | SCHEDULE | STATISTICS: Following an 0-5 start to the season through a gauntlet of non-conference opponents, the Gulls responded by winning six of their last seven conference games to clinch the second seed. Endicott is led in scoring by All-CCC First Team junior midfielder Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H.) who has 32 goals, 20 assists, and 52 points on the season, bringing her to 185 career points that ranks eighth on the all-time Endicott points list, eighth in goals, and tied for fifth in career assists. All-CCC Second Team sophomore attack Erin McCarthy (Old Lyme, Conn.) is currently second on the team in goals (28) and points (32) and ranks in a three-way tie for sixth all-time for most free-position goals in a single season with 14 this year. All-CCC Third Team freshman midfielder Ali Campbell (Lakeville, Mass.) is second on the team in assists (12) and third in points (26), while scooping up a team-high 34 ground balls and winning 39 draw controls (team's second-highest). The Gulls' defense led by All-CCC First Team/CCC Defensive Player of the Year junior Chelsea Burke's  (Georgetown, Mass.) team-high 16 caused turnovers, All-CCC Third Team senior defenders Elizabeth Reda (Wilton, Conn.) and Brenna Shannon (Stratham, N,.H.), and All-CCC Third Team goalie Maura Grady (Marblehead, Mass.) has allowed the second-fewest goals in conference play (65) and second-lowest goals against average in conference (8.03).

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND (11-6, 6-2 CCC) | SCHEDULE | STATISTICS: The Nor'easters defeated Curry, 12-5, in the CCC Quarterfinals on Saturday to advance to the semifinals against Endicott. UNE is 4-4 on the road this season and six student-athletes named to the CCC All-Conference teams: Jolena Lampron,(First Team) Korinne Bohunsky (First Team)Jocelyn Davee (Second Team)Courtney Kendall (Third Team)Katie Cawley (Third Team), and Nicole Carvalho (Third Team).
