Whitney Nails Game-Winner As Endicott Defeats WNEU, 10-9, In OT

BEVERLY, Mass. – Emily Whitney's (Rye, N.H.) goal with six seconds remaining in the first overtime sent the Endicott women's lacrosse team flying onto the field to a celebrate a 10-9 victory over visiting Western New England University Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Hempstead Stadium.

The Gulls opened the game with a strike from freshman midfielder Ali Campbell (Lakeville, Mass.) with 26:24 on the clock and built a 4-1 advantage with 16:22 to play in the first half.

The Golden Bears knotted the score at four apiece on the second of senior attack Brooke Kumnick's (Granby, Conn.) game-high four goals at the 1:45 mark before Whitney gave the Gulls a 5-4 edge heading into the break.

The second half saw the Gulls create a two-goal cushions three times, as they led 6-4, 8-6, and 9-7, but WNEU's senior attack Taylor Scialdone (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) scored her CCC-leading 51st goal of the season to tie it all up at nine-all with 4:09 remaining in regulation.

Sophomore goalie Molly Lane (Durham, Maine) earned her first career win for Endicott as she came in to replace junior net-minder Maura Grady (Marblehead, Mass.). Lane recorded 22:53 minutes of action in goal and made three saves, including a key stop on a free-position shot with 23 seconds left in overtime to set up Whitney's game-winner.

Golden Bears' sophomore goalie Shannon McFadden (West Islip, N.Y.) fell to 8-4 on the season as she made 19 saves in the defeat.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

• The Gulls won their second consecutive game by the score of 10-9 as Whitney had the game-winning goal in both contests.
• Whitney tied team-high on the day with three goals and dished out one assist for her fifth hat trick of the season.
• Freshman attack Jackie Healy (Northborough, Mass.) netted a career-high three goals for her first career hat trick.
• Campbell registered her second consecutive five-point total as she scored two goals and tallied a game-high three assists. (Five points is a career-high.)
• Senior attack Isabelle Sipperly (Greenwich, N.Y.) notched her first goal of the season.
• Campbell has three assists in three games this season.
• Endicott won a season-high 16 draw controls as sophomore midfielder Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) tallied a game-high/career-high nine draw controls.
• The Gulls took a season-high 33 shots.
• Endicott won its first home game of the season.

FOR THE FOES

• Kumnick and Scialdone each recorded a game-high four goals.
• Scialdone leads the CCC with 51 goals on the season.
• Kumnick totaled a game-high six points as she also chipped in a team-high two assists alongside sophomore attack Julia Winer's (Longmeadow, Mass.) pair of helpers.
• 19 saves for McFadden was her second-highest total this season. (20 against Bridgewater St. on March 31, 2016).
• Senior midfielder Megan Clune (Scotia, N.Y.) collected a game-high four ground balls and caused a game-high three turnovers.

NOTES

• The Gulls are 13-6 all-time and 7-2 at home vs. WNEU dating back prior to the 2001 season.
• WNEU had won the past two meetings, including a 15-12 win in Springfield, Mass. on April 18, 2015 last season before the Gulls snapped that streak today.
