Gulls cruise past Monks, 89-62

CASTINE, Maine - Nicole Duchesne (Plaistow, N.H.) scored a game high 22 points to go along with five rebounds, four assists, and three steals to lead the Endicott College women's basketball team over Saint Joseph's College, 89-62 in the first game of the Maine Maritime Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Castine, Maine. The Gulls improve to 5-3 on the season while the Monks drop to 6-2.

Endicott jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead two minutes into the contest after a layup by Ashley Wright (Merrimack, N.H.). The Gulls led the entire half building leads in excess of 28 points off another layup from Wright, closing the half with a 52-31 lead. Endicott shot a blistering 54.5% from the field including hitting seven threes off of eleven attempts. Wright had 15 points in the frame while Duchesne scored 14 of her 22 points while each player had three steals.

The second half would be more of the same as the Gulls continued their strong play and outscored the Monks 37-31 in the final frame. Brittany Kelleher (Wakefield, Mass.) scored all 13 of her points in the period to lead the Gulls in the second half.

For the game, the Gulls shot 50% from the field while going 10-19 from 3-point field goal range. Endicott scored 19 points off of 15 Saint Joseph's turnovers. The Gulls also limited the Monks to 34.3% shooting including 15.8% from behind the arc.

The Gulls were led by Duchesne's efforts as well as 18 points and six steals from Ashley Wright. Ashley Vitale (Wilmington, Mass.) and Jenna Cosgrove (Sharon, Mass.) each scored 11 points in the game while Nicole Young (Rockland, Mass.) led the Gulls on the boards with nine rebounds.

Saint Joseph's Meghan Daigle (Grantham, N.H.) scored 13 points and had eight rebounds to lead the Monks. Sarah Fournier (Jay, Maine) came off the bench to hit all three of the team's 3-pointers en route to scoring 11 points.

The Gulls will face host Maine Maritime on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. The Mariners were able to defeat the University of Maine - Fort Kent on Saturday, 50-45. Saint Joseph's will take on the Lady Bengals in a game to be played at 1:00 p.m.
