NEWPORT, R.I. - Endicott College suffered its first The Commonwealth Coast Conference setback of the season, falling to Salve Regina University, 7-2, on Tuesday afternoon at the Lawrence Avenue Courts in Newport, R.I.

The Seahawks swept all three doubles matches and fought their way to wins in four of the six singles matches to improve to 5-9 on the season (4-2 TCCC). The Gulls (6-4, 4-1 TCCC) suffered their first conference loss of the season.

Senior Collin Cunningham (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and junior Steve Masso (North Scituate, R.I.) opened the afternoon with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles. Sophomore Charles Normington (Acton, Mass.) and freshman Zachary Rosenfeld (Easton, Conn.) followed with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, and junior Andrew Martin (Glastonbury, Conn.) and sophomore Trey Van Buskirk (La Jolla, Calif.) closed with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.

Normington earned the fourth point of the afternoon for the Seahawks at No. 3 singles, defeating sophomore Devon Locke (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Rosenfeld also won in straight sets, defeating senior Marc Maloney (Feeding Hills, Mass.), 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.

Martin rallied back after dropping the first set to reigning TCCC Player of the Week Josh Schoen (Phoenix, Ariz.) at No. 1 singles, 6-4, to win the second set 6-4 and the third set 1-0 (10-5), while Masso defeated sophomore Mike D'Ambra (Barrington, R.I.) in three sets, 6-1, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4 - the final match of the afternoon.

Senior Scott Teller (Granville, N.Y.) won at No. 5 singles for Endicott, defeating Cunningham 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6). Junior Dan Murray (Coventry, R.I.) earned the other point of the afternoon for the Gulls. After dropping the first set 6-4 and trailing 5-2 in the second set, Murray climbed back to win the second set 7-6 (7-4) and the third set 6-4.

The Seahawks return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Eastern Nazarene for a 3:30 match. Endicott gets back to action on Wednesday when the Gulls host Nichols College at 4:00 p.m.
