Endicott wins fifth straight, 8-1 over Leopards

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott Collge men's tennis team won its fifth match in a row as the Gulls defeated the Wentworth Institute of Technology, 8-1, on Sunday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. Endicott improves to 6-3 (4-0 TCCC) while Wentworth drops to 1-7 (1-6 TCCC). Endicott's Porter Williams (Norwalk, Conn.) picked up his first collegiate win in singles play, 6-2, 6-3, against Wentworth's Josh Welt (Oak Hill, Va.).

Endicott started off its day by taking two-of-three doubles matches from the Leopards. Josh Schoen (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Dan Murray (Coventry, R.I.) defeated Dan Alexander (Merrimack, Mass.) and Ross Lyons (Madison, Conn.) in number-one doubles, 8-6, while Marc Maloney (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Scott Teller (Granville, N.Y.) won the other matchup in number-three doubles for the Gulls, 8-3, over Woody Lee (Belmont, Mass.) and Joe Centolla (Hopkinton, Mass.). Wentworth's John Kelly (Rutland, Vt.) and Nate Gove (Scarborough, Mass.) defeated Mike D'Ambra (Barrington, R.I.) and Scott Kitchen (Norwell, Mass.), 8-1, for the lone win of the day for the Leopards.

The Gulls carried their strong doubles effort over to singles play as Endicott cruised to victories in all six of their matchups. Every matchup went in straight sets for the Gulls as Schoen defeated Dan Alexander, 6-3, 6-1, in number-one singles while Dan Murray defeated Woody Lee, 6-3, 6-0 in number-two singles. Mike D'Ambra and Scott Teller coasted to victories in number three and four singles while Gabriel Moraga (Marlborough, Conn.) stepped into the action in number-five singles and defeated Gove, 6-4, 6-1. Finally, Porter Williams earned his first collegiate victory in number-six singles with his straight set victory over Josh Welt.

The Blue and Green hope to continue their winning-streak when they travel to Newport, R.I. to take on Salve Regina University at 3:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon. Wentworth also heads to Rhode Island on Monday when it takes on Roger Williams University at 4:00 p.m. in TCCC action.
