Endicott drops 2-0 decision to Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I.
– Roger Williams University’s Justin Plourde (Concord, N.H.) netted a pair of goals to help down Endicott College, 2-0, in men’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon in Bristol, R.I. The Gulls fall to 5-7 overall and 4-4 in the TCCC while the Hawks improve to 11-3 and 7-1 in conference matches.

At the 4:59 mark of the first period, Plourde took a free kick which no players on either side were able to get a touch. The ball eventually bounced through everyone and into the right side of the goal to give RWU a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Brendan O’Brien (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) kicked one of Roger Williams’ six corner kicks which Plourde headed into the goal as the clock read 74:58. Plourde nearly finished the game with a hat trick, but goalie \#Daniel Higgins\# (Kingstown, R.I.) made a diving save to his right in the 52nd minute.

Both the Hawks and the Gulls attempted three shots on goal, all of which Hawk Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) saved, while Higgins shielded the one Plourde shot from entering.

Roger Williams had the advantage in shots, 11-8, and corner kicks 6-4.

Aggressiveness defined the play of both teams throughout the game, with 25 fouls committed between the Hawks and Gulls, with three players receiving cautions on both sides.

The Blue and Green look to rebound from losses in their last two matches when the Gulls host Eastern Nazarene College on Wednesday in TCCC action at 7:00 p.m. Roger Williams looks to continue its eight-game winning streak as the Hawks host Gordon College on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
