BEVERLY, Mass. – Gordon College’s Noah McGarr (Westport, Mass.) scored the lone goal of the game in the first half of a 1-0 victory over Endicott College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference men’s soccer action on Tuesday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. With the win, Gordon improves to 3-4 this year and 2-1 in the conference while Endicott falls to the exact same record (3-4, 2-1 TCCC) with the defeat.
Both teams had their opportunities in the first half as the teams combined for 11 shots in the frame with the Gulls taking seven attempts to Gordon’s four. McGarr recorded the one shot that mattered for the visitor’s as he took a through ball from Matt Horth (Akron, Ohio) just outside the box. The forward from Westport, Mass. then made a nifty dribble move past a diving \#Daniel Higgins\# (Kingstown, R.I.) and blasted a shot to the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the teams were evenly matched as each side took five shots in the period. The Gordon defense held Endicott in check for most of the half to maintain their one-goal edge. However, the Gulls best opportunity came with less than two minutes to play as Endicott’s \#Brian Connery\# (Boxford, Mass.) was awarded a free kick from just outside the Gordon box. Connery rifled a free kick that just missed the Gordon goal and unfortunately was the last scoring opportunity for the Gulls as time ticked away and Gordon escaped with the 1-0 win.
Gordon’s Ryan Coil (Brentwood, Tenn.) moved to 2-0 this season by making four saves in the shutout victory. \#Daniel Higgins\# falls to 3-4 with the loss while making three saves and allowing the one goal.
Endicott returns to action with another TCCC matchup on Saturday at the University of New England at 1:30 p.m. Gordon will travel to Boston, Mass. for a conference game against Wentworth on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
