The Endicott College men’s soccer team was tabbed for an eighth place finish in 2009, this according to the 2009 TCCC Preseason Poll released on Wednesday morning by the conference office. The Gulls tripled their win total from 2007 (2-11-3) by going 6-11-1 and finishing just outside the playoffs in 2008 despite winning its final three contests. Two-time defending TCCC Champions Western New England College was selected as the preseason favorite.
The Gulls will look for an influx of youth as the team has retooled with a very large freshman class. The young Gulls team will get a boost as Endicott returns its lone All-TCCC selection from a year ago in Bryan Lee (Rockport, Mass.) who scored three goals last season while starting all 18 games at defense.
Western New England College (16-1-6, 9-0-4 TCCC) received 13 of the 14 first-place votes in the 2009 TCCC preseason poll. Roger Williams University was selected second while receiving the remaining first-place vote. Curry College and Salve Regina University were picked to finish third and fourth, respectively.
Teams received 14 points for every first place vote received, 13 points for second place votes, 12 points for third place votes, down to one point for a last place vote. Voting for the preseason poll was conducted among the league’s head men’s soccer coaches.
