Men’s Basketball Downs UNE, 92-75

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott men's basketball team defeated the University of New England (UNE), 92-75, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup on Tuesday night at MacDonald Gymnasium. 

Jalen Echevarria (Lynn, Mass.) led a quartet of Gulls in double-figures with a game-high 27 points (11-18 FG, 4-9 3PT) along with three boards in 31 minutes of play.

Ty Vitko (Dover, N.H.) added 19 points (6-12 FG, 3-7 3PT, 4-4 FT), while Jeff Hill (Lynn, Mass.) chipped in with 14 points (5-12 FG, 4-6 3PT) alongside seven dimes and four steals. 

Liam Dunfee (Nahant, Mass.) rounded out the individual highlights with 13 points and also ripped down four boards in 13 minutes off the bench. 

The Gulls leaped out to an early 12-2 advantage via a Hill three-ball, a Vitko mid-range jumper and right-wing trifecta, an Echevarria netted jumper, and Dunfee converted lay-in.

Later in the frame, Endicott seized all momentum with a 7-3 spurt to give the Blue and Green their largest lead of the half 40-22 with 4:40 left.

In the second half, the Nor'Easters cut the deficit to 10 points (69-59) with 10:29 left.

Endicott eventually outscored UNE 26-16 in the final 10:04 of action to secure the home triumph. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls own a 17-4 edge against UNE at MacDonald Gymnasium. 
  • The Blue and Green are 8-2 when nailing 10 three-pointers or more.
  • The hosts shot 40.0% (12-30) from bonus distance, as opposed to the visitors shooting 19.2% (5-26).
  • Mark Barrett (Brookline, Mass.) swatted a career-high five rejections.
  • Elijah Kinney (Nashville, Tenn.) snatched a game-best 15 boards.

Endicott (12-6, 7-3 CCC) hosts Suffolk on Saturday, January 27 for a 3:00 PM tipoff. UNE (5-13, 0-10 CCC) visits Gordon on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
