Men’s Basketball Takes Down Emmanuel (Mass.), 80-72

BOSTON, Mass. — The Endicott men's basketball team defeated Emmanuel (Mass.), 80-72, in the EC Tip-Off Classic on Friday night at Jean Yawkey Center.

Ty Vitko (Dover, N.H.) led the Gulls with a contest-best 22 points (10-16 FG, 2-6 3PT) along with four rebounds in 32 minutes of action.

Mark Barrett (Brookline, Mass.) recorded his first double-double of the young season via 11 points and 10 boards, while Cam Homsey (Windham, N.H.) supplied an efficient 12 points (3-4 FG, 3-3 3PT) and three boards off the bench. 

Trailing 26-24 with 6:25 to play, the Blue and Green orchestrated a 14-1 run to gain a 37-27 advantage with 2:30 remaining in the opening stanza.

From there, Emmanuel chipped at the Endicott lead before a 13-1 stretch generated its largest lead of 14 points (75-61). The spurt was fueled by Homsey (6), Vitko (4), Jeff Hill (Lynn, Mass.) (2), and Matt Boen (Mansfield, Mass.) (1). 

The Gulls would not relinquish the lead, and held on for the triumph to advance to tomorrow night's EC Tip-Off Classic championship game. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls are 5-1 all-time against the Saints.
  • The Blue and Green finished with 32 points in the paint, while the Saints had 24.
  • Endicott's bench outscored the hosts' substitutes, 19-10.
  • Tonight's contest saw eight ties and 12 lead changes.
  • Endicott dished out 19 dimes on 29 made field goals.
