Gulls Downed By Bates, 4-1

LEWISTON, Maine —  Sophomore forward Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) helped the Endicott field hockey team avoid being shut out in a 4-1 loss to host Bates College Wednesday night at Campus Avenue Field.

Sophomore forward Jessie Moriarty (Springfield, Mass.) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season and added an assist later on as she paced the Bobcats' offensive attack with a game-high seven shots.

Freshman forward Alexandra Leahy (Cohasset, Mass.), junior Sydney Beres (New York, N.Y.), and sophomore forward Adah Lindquist (Wayne, Pa.) all found the back of the cage in the second half for the Bobcats in the 38th, 42nd, and 68th minutes, respectively.

Trailing 3-0 at the time, Cogliano, scored her fifth goal of the season (unassisted) in the 56th minute as she knocked it in from the near right post.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is 0-2 against NESCAC schools this season and 1-4 against non-conference opponents.
  • Bates leads the all-time series, 2-0, dating back to the first meeting in 2015.
  • Bates out-shot Endicott, 24-1, including a 12-1 margin on goal.

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Adelae Durand (Cumberland, R.I.) did not have to make any saves in the first 35 minutes of action en route to her fourth win of the season (4-3) before giving way to freshman Alyssa Souza (Scarborough, Maine) to begin the second half.
  • Bates snapped a three-game skid with tonight's victory.
  • Moriarty has five game-winning goals this season.
  • Moriarty and Lindquist each tallied one goal and one assist.
  • Sophomore forward Taylor Lough (Little Compton, R.I.) now leads the team with four assists on the year.
  • Junior defender Samantha Reiss (New Haven, Vt.) recorded her first assist of the season.

NOTES

  • The Bobcats defeated the Gulls, 2-1, on 10/07/15 in the most recent meeting before today in Beverly, Mass.
