Gulls picked fifth in field hockey preseason poll

Aug. 27, 2008

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference released its annual preseason field hockey coaches' poll on Wednesday, and Endicott College was picked to finish fifth out of the nine competing institutions. Cross town rival Gordon College was named the favorite, as the Fighting Scots received five of the nine first-place votes.

New England College was selected by the coaches as the runner-up in the conference with two first-place votes. Nichols College received the final two remaining first-place votes and was picked to finish third. Teams received nine points for every first-place vote, eight points for second-place votes, seven points for third-place votes, down to one point for a last-place vote. First-place votes are shown in parentheses.

Endicott opens its season on Friday afternoon as it squares-off with Philadelphia Biblical at 4:00 p.m. on the campus of Gordon College. The Blue and Green posted an 11-7 overall record (4-4 TCCC) last season under first year head coach Jodi Cipolla, a mark that was good enough to qualify for both the conference tournament and the ECAC New England Championships.
