Endicott Field Hockey Routs Salve Regina 2-0

Sept. 13, 2003

Newport, RI - Endicott College field hockey competed today away at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI.

The two teams were evenly matched throughout first-half play. Both teams took penalty corner after penalty corner and shot after shot but were unable to execute for a goal. The EC Gulls recorded 15 shots in the half versus SRU's 7 shots on goal.

With both teams eager to post a goal, second half play was even more intense. Caitlin Murray (Fr./Templeton, MA) finally got one by Salve keeper Brook Bowley, to put the Gulls ahead 1-0 with 28:20 left in the game. Murray was assisted by Kim Doody (Jr./Laconia, NH).

Less than two minutes later, the Gulls scored again when captain Kara Fournier (Sr./Bow, NH) drove in a shot off a penalty corner at 26:40. The assist on Fournier's goal came from KD Balentine (Jr./York, ME).

EC's defense, anchored by captain Kelly McNamara (Sr./Reading, MA) kept the opposing offensive from scoring for the entirety of the match, their second shut-out in as many games.

Salve Regina was Endicott's first conference opponent of the season. This win makes EC's conference record 1-0, and their overall record 4-2.

The EC Gulls return to action Wednesday afternoon when they will face conference rival Gordon College at home at 4:00 pm.
