Savitske Pitches No Hitter

Beverly, MA-- Sophomore Robyn Savitske pitched a no hitter, in the first of two games against the visiting Nichols Bison in softball action. The Gulls swept the Bison, winning 3-0 in the first and 4-0 in the second game.

The Gulls were on the board early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second and one run in the 5th. Freshman catcher, Rachel Pearson started the 2nd inning off with a single, advancing to second on a Katie Doherty sacrifice to 3rd base. Sophomore Laura Schack notched a single of her own, moving Pearson into scoring position. Nicole Reather batted in the first run for the Gulls on a sacrifice fly to leftfield. Freshman Kelly Bregman singled home the second run with the Gulls, giving EC the early advantage.

Elyse Colby smacked a double in the 5th, brining in Ashley Labella from second, capping the score at three for EC.

Savitske struck out 12 batters, and only walked one in the win. The no hitter marks the second time in her collegiate career, she has accomplished this feat. She remains undefeated, posting 17 wins on the season.

Nicole Reather was on the mound for the Gulls in the second game against Nichols, allowing only two hits and zero runs. Freshman Paula McGinn went 2-for-3 with one RBI in the 4-0 victory.

Morgan Finegan earned a walk to start the third inning, advancing to second on a McGinn sacrifice. Finegan would move to third on an Ashley Labella ground out to second base and cross home plate on a passed ball, giving EC the 1-0 lead.

Kelly Bregman singled in the 5th and scored the second run for the Gulls on an error by the Nichols pitcher, followed by McGinn who had singled at the start of the play, forcing the Bison miscue. Rachel Pearson tallied a RBI by doubling in Labella from third.

Reather earned her 9th win of the season, while the team improved their record to 28-2-1, 19-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. EC hosts Curry College this Saturday, for the last, regular season, conference game. The double header begins at 12:00p.m.
