For the second time in as many years, Endicott raced in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston in front of an estimated 300,000 people. Like last year, the Gulls were represented by a men's club four and a women's club four.
Coming off a strong race in New Hampshire, the men's 4+ (C: Mariah Scanlon, 4: Nate Simeon, 3: Clayton Morrissey, 2: Charles Nastasi, 1: Alston Adkins), were eager to take to the Charles and revenge last year's last place finish - last year's entry was a novice lineups in a very experienced field. While the men couldn't hang with the elites of Harvard and Yale, they made significant headway by crossing the line in 43rd of 52 crews. In the process, the men's crew topped fellow league member Brandeis by 20 seconds.
The women's 4+ (C: Katie Cody, 4: Annie Ahrens, 3: Hannah Cushman, 2: Joy Harriman, 1: Haley Russo) have been Endicott's best crew all season long, finishing 4th of 13 in NH a week ago. However, the crew had a bad row on race day and finished 41st of 45. Despite the result, the entire team enjoyed the experience. The crew is made up of a freshman, 3 sophomores, and a junior, they're hoping to have another stab at the Charles next year.
Next up for the Gulls is the fall racing finale, the New England Collegiate Rowing League Halloween Regatta, where the team looks to capture its first team point trophy at a fall regatta.
