WALTHAM, MA - Endicott College was looking to play the spoiler in the final game of the Judges Classic title Saturday. But the host school, Brandeis, had its mind set on the tournament title.
The Gulls took the Judges to the brink in every game but in the end Brandeis was able to get the 3-1, win and take the Judges Classic title.
Brandeis won the first game 30-22 before Endicott stormed back and took a wild game 2 34-32. However, the hosts would have the final say, winning 32-30 and 30-26 to earn the victory and the title.
The team posted big numbers in the loss. Freshman libero Brittany Nolan (Monroe, CT/Masuk) had a career day, recording 32 digs in the game and sophomore setter Meghan Hall (Santa Cruz, CA/Aptos) had 55 assists.
Killeen Ross (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) had 18 kills, 21 digs and three aces plus Sara Moore (Guilford, CT/Guilford) chipped in 14 kills and two blocks. Kaylee Krom (Strasburg, CO/Strasburg) put up 10 kills and 23 digs and Hayley Janelle (Madbury, NH/Oyster River) added 10 kills.
Endicott took the first game of the day, 3-0, over Newbury and dropped the middle contest, 3-0, to Eastern Connecticut. Hall recorded 39 assists, two assists and six digs versus Eastern Connecticut and added 23 assists, six aces and 10 digs in the shutout win over Newbury.
Moore contributed 15 kills and two blocks versus Eastern Conn. And Krom had 18 kills, two aces and 18 digs. Nolan led the team in digs with 25 and Ross added 17 digs.
Amy Stevens (Clinton, NY/Morgan School) had four aces and 13 digs against Newbury and Patty Mikan (Shelton, CT/St. Joseph's) had four aces and 11 digs.
Endicott will face the University of New England Tuesday in the Commonwealth Coast Conference quarterfinals.
