CAMRIDGE, MA -- Colby College and Skidmore College each got past Endicott College in Pool C play of the MIT Invitational Friday night.
In the first match, the Mules needed five games to beat the Gulls, 3-2. Endicott won the first game (30-19) lost game 2 (30-16) and won the third game (30-28), before falling 30-15 and 15-12 in the final two games.
Skidmore then defeated Endicott, 3-1, in the nightcap (30-22, 24-30, 30-12, 30-23). Endicott is 7-6 (1-1 CCC) heading into Saturday's action of the invitational.
Sophomore setter Meghan Hall (Santa Cruz, CA/Aptos) had 36 assists in the first match, while freshman outside hitter Kaylee Krom (Strasburg, CO/Strasburg) contributed 13 digs, nine kills and four aces. Sophomore middle hitter and senior outside hitter Killeen Ross (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) each added eight kills.
Moore also had five blocks in the match and senior outside hitter Patty Mikan (Shelton, CT/St. Joseph's) dug up 13 balls while freshman libero Brittany Nolan (Monroe, CT/Masuk) led the team with 19 digs.
Moore tacked on 19 kills and five blocks against Skidmore, Krom had 10 kills and 17 digs and Ross chipped in 10 kills and 10 digs. Hall (34 assists), Mikan (3 aces) and Nolan (15 digs) also played large roles for Endicott.
The Gulls earned the \#1 seed in the Bronze bracket and will play Bates College at 10:00 AM and Emmanuel College at 2:00 PM on Saturday.
