BEVERLY, MA - The Endicott women's volleyball team enjoyed the friendly confines of McDonald Gymnasium Saturday on Homecoming Day and Senior Day with 3-0 wins over Western New England College and Wheaton College in non-conference action.
The Gulls bested Western New England College in the opening match, 3-0, by scores of 30-18, 30-18 and 30-23 but Wheaton made the hosts earn every points. Endicott won the first game 30-27, took the middle game 33-31 and completed the sweep with a 30-22 win.
The Gulls improved to 16-9 overall (7-1 CCC), while Wheaton stands at 9-15 (3-3 NEWMAC) and WNEC evened its record at 11-11 overall (4-2 GNAC).
Senior Patty Mikan (Shelton, CT/St. Joseph's) led the Gulls to their first victory with 11 digs and a team-high five aces to go along with five kills. Meghan Hall (Santa Cruz, CA/Aptos) handed out 37 assists, Sara Moore (Guilford, CT/Guilford) added 12 kills from her middle hitter position and Hayley Janelle (Madbury, NH/Oyster River) led the team with 13 kills. Killeen Ross (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) helped out with eight kills.
Kaylee Krom (Strasburg, CO/Strasburg) ignited the Gulls in the nightcap against Wheaton with eight kills, seven aces and six digs. Moore had a strong all-around match, recording eight kills to go along with an ace, a block and a dig while Janelle added nine kills and two blocks and Hall had 33 assists and four kills.
Elizabeth Reagh (Seattle, WA/Seattle Lutheran) led the Lyons with 17 digs and 14 kills in the loss. Tonia Smith (White Plains, NY/Alexander Hamilton) posted 13 kills, Marriah Vengroff (Storrs, CT/E.O. Smith) had four blocks and nine kills and Alexis Liesman (Winchester, CA/West Valley) added 38 assists.
Wheaton won its opening match 3-0 over WNEC (30-15, 30-24, 30-25). Reagh led the charge with 11 kills and 12 digs, Liesman had 38 assists, Carilyn Tately (Walpole, MA/Walpole) had 12 digs and Smith contributed eight kills.
WNEC's Teddy Woeppel (Cooperstown, NY/Cooperstown) and Ashley O'Keefe (South Dennis, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) led the Golden Bears. Woeppel posted eight kills, five blocks and three aces while O'Keefe chipped in 12 kills and six blocks.
