AMHERST, MA - Endicott College competed against two New England Small College Athletic Conference teams in the opening night of the Hall of Fame Invitational Friday night, losing to Amherst College, 3-1, and shutting out Bates College, 3-0.
The Gulls (17-10, 8-1 CCC) beat the Lord Jeffs 30-24 in the first game before losing the next three (30-21, 30-23, 30-26). However, Endicott regrouped to beat the Bobcats, 30-24, 30-25 and 30-17.
The Gulls, who will face another NESCAC team in Bowdoin College - Endicott beat the Polar Bears 3-1 at home this season - Saturday at noon (at Mt. Holyoke College in Holyoke), received 15 kills and five blocks from Sara Moore (Guilford, CT/Guilford) and a team-high 27 digs from Brittany Nolan (Monroe, CT/Masuk) in the opening loss while Meghan Hall (Santa Cruz, CA/Aptos) added 39 assists and 13 digs.
Hayley Janelle (Madbury, NH/Oyster River) chipped in four blocks, Patty Mikan (Shelton, Ct/St. Joseph's) had three aces and Killeen Ross (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) had four blocks in the first match.
In Endicott's victory over Bates, Hall's 35 assists and seven digs led the way while Kaylee Krom (Strasburg, CO/Strasburg) had eight kills, eight digs and three aces. Ross (10 kills), Moore (9 kills), Mikan (7 digs, 4 aces) and Nolan (3 aces) all chipped in while Kim Marschner (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) added eight kills.
