CCC SEMIFINAL: #3 Endicott Falls to #2 Wentworth 1-0 to End 2016 Campaign

BOSTON, Mass. – The Endicott women's soccer team, the third seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament, fell to No. 2 Wentworth 1-0 in the Quarterfinals to end the 2016 season.

With the loss, the Gulls wrap up the season with a 13-4-2 record overall after posting a 7-2 record in CCC play in the regular season. The win lifts Wentworth to 14-3-3 on the season as they advance to the championship match for the second time in three years.

Wentworth got on the board early as the Leopards scored what would be the only goal of the match in the eighth minute. Junior Ali Leach (Stowe, Vt.) scored her fifth goal of the season at the 7:49 mark when her shot from the top right of the box slipped by the Endicott keeper to tilt the score to 1-0 in favor of the hosts. That lead would never be relinquished as neither team could strike on the scoreboard to give the Leopards the 1-0 Semifinal victory.

BEYOND THE BOX

  • Endicott's offense was primarily kept in check, with Sharlotte Pernice (West Springfield, Mass.) and Paige Pratt (Topsfield, Mass.) finishing as the only two to finish with multiple shots. Each player finished with two shots each with one of Pernice's being on goal.
  • Matching Pernice with a shot on goal was junior Rachel Hanna (Chelmsford, Mass.) who put her lone shot on goal.
  • Larissa Cade (Middlefield, Conn.) was impressive throughout, finishing with one shot in the contest.
  • Endicott keeper Caroline Armbruster (Stowe, Vt.) finished with five saves on the six shots she faced.
  • The Gulls' two senior co-captains, Nicole Tayler (Easton, Mass.) and Casey Mellen (Litchfield, N.H.) finish their careers with an overall record of 48-23-11 (.652) and a record of 26-8-2 (.750) in conference play. The duo's run has included a CCC Championship and NCAA 2nd Round appearance in 2013 as freshmen, two CCC Semifinal appearances (2015, 2016) and a Quarterfinal appearance in 2014.

FOR THE FOES

  • Assistant on Leach's fifth goal of the season was Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.). The assist was the senior's third of the season as she is second on the team with 21 points.
  • Leach's goal gives her 14 points on the year which is good for fourth on the roster.
  • Goalie Micaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) made two saves in the victory to claim her ninth shutout of the campaign and improve her personal record to 9-2-3 overall.
