Verneris' Two Goal Effort Leads Gulls to 4-0 Win Over Bison

DUDLEY, Mass. - Behind a two goal performance from sophomore Mary Verneris (Hamden, Conn.), Endicott defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Nichols 4-0 on Friday night. The Gulls are now 8-1-1 on the season and 3-1-0 in conference play.

Verneris scored her first and the team's first at the 20:43 mark as she redirected a corner and beat the Nichols keeper. Her second would then be the team's third as she carried the ball into the box and dribbled around the keeper in the 66th minute.

Endicott's stifling defense was able to keep Nichols from registering a shot in the contest as the Gulls were able to post 11 in 90 minutes of action. Endicott scored two goals off seven first half shots and two more off four shots in the second frame. The Gulls also held an edge in corner kicks (6-3) on the night.

BEYOND THE BOX

  • For Verneris, her two goals represented her third and fourth of the season as she is now fifth on the roster with nine points on the year.
  • Endicott's second goal was scored by Paige Pratt (Topsfield, Mass.) who has now posted six points on the season. Her goal came less than three minutes after Verneris' first in the 24th minute as she has now recorded two goals on the season.
  • The Gulls saw Abigail Silverstein (Katonah, N.Y.) net her first career goal in the 84th minute. The sophomore was able to beat a couple of defenders and cut into the box to snap a shot into the back of the net to close the scoring.
  • Keepers Caroline Armbruster (Stowe, Vt.) and Shelby Elwell (Litchfield, Conn.) combined for the shutout in the win. Armbruster improves to 8-1-0 on the season individually.
  • Endicott improved to 21-3-1 all-time against Nichols as the Gulls have now won 17 straight in the series, out-scoring the Bison 48-6 over that stretch.
