Endicott rallies past Eastern Nazarene 2-1

Quincy, Mass – The Endicott women's soccer team utilized a pair of set pieces to rally past Eastern Nazarene, 2-1, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon. \#Kayla Corbett\# (Danvers, Mass.) hammered home a corner kick just 53 seconds into the first overtime period, helping the Gulls remain undefeated (4-0) in conference play. With the win, Endicott improves to 6-2-1 on the season while Eastern Nazarene drops to 2-4-2 on the year and remains winless (0-4-1) in the conference.

The Gulls surrendered an early goal to the Lions but knotted the game just before halftime. Both offenses were held at bay in the second half before Corbett tallied the game winner moments into the extra frame.

Eastern Nazarene opened the scoring in the 5th minute after Jillian Thornton (Guilderland, N.Y.) beat Endicott keeper \#Natalie Wyrsch\# (Dover, N.H.) to a loose ball and blasted a shot into the net, giving the Lions an early 1-0 lead.

After 36 minutes of scoreless action, Endicott forward \#Vanessa Caruccio\# (Winthrop, Mass.) netted the equalizer off a corner kick. The kick was sent toward the left corner of the goal where both teams converged. Caruccio was able to make the final touch and tapped the ball across the line, tying the game at one goal apiece. The goal was the first of the season for the sophomore.

Despite firing eight shots in the second half, the Gulls were unable to take the lead. Lions' senior keeper Victoria Sontag (Mount Vernon, N.H.) held strong as she recorded three saves in the second half.

The overtime period lasted less than a minute before the senior Corbett received a corner kick and tapped it into the goal for her fourth goal of the season.

The Gulls outshot Eastern Nazarene 13-2 on the afternoon. The sophomore Wyrsch made one save in her sixth win of the season.

Both teams will play their next matches on Wednesday. Endicott travels to New London, New Hampshire to take on Colby-Sawyer while Eastern Nazarene travels to Curry College.
