Women’s Rugby Punches Ticket To Nationals

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott club women's rugby team downed Bentley (17-10), Plymouth State (41-10), and Wentworth (43-5) on Sunday at Hempstead Stadium to win the Endicott 7s Invitational and punch their ticket to nationals.

Offensively, the Gulls were led by Samantha Hontas (Lee, Mass.) as the junior wing/fullback compiled five tries over the course of the invitational. Shelby Stevenson (South Dennis, Mass.) also stood out for the Gulls with four tries, while Lauren Hervieux (Lincoln, R.I.) followed with three.

Meanwhile, Sophia Hatzis (West Roxbury, Mass.) and Reagan Cerci (Easton, Mass.) chipped in with two tries apiece, and Amanda Poulin (Turner, Maine) rounded out the group with one.

Nicole McCardle (Castleton, Vt.) also put together an impressive day in the invitational for Endicott with seven conversions and stalwart defense that keyed the Gulls to their three victories.
