Gulls Finish Undefeated Regular Season With Victory Over Salve Regina

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott women's club rugby team hosted their final match of the regular season against Salve Regina over the weekend and earned a 31-24 victory over the Seahawks. With the victory, the Gulls now sit at a perfect 7-0 on the season as they prepare for the CCRC playoffs next weekend.

Prior to the match, Alejandra Lopez (Madrid, Spain), Katie Page (Salem, N.H.), and Shelby Stevenson (South Dennis, Mass.) were honored for their contributions towards the program and the College in a pre-game ceremony.

The Gulls and Seahawks battled try for try in the opening half of play. Both teams battled both offensively and defensively throughout the match, but the Gulls were able to rally late in the match with a long try from Amanda Poulin (Turner, Maine) to solidify the victory. The Gulls offense was led by junior Samantha Hontas (Lee, Mass.) who scored two tries on the day. Jordan Zak (Brimfield, Mass.) and Michelle Palmer (Brimfield, Mass.) also contributed one try a piece.

"Salve made our backs work really hard to find space," said Endicott women's rugby head coach Emily Record. "We played some great goal line defense and at one point we were playing defense from our try line for two minutes before Salve was finally able to break through."

Endicott has officially locked in the number one seed in the CCRC playoff tournament. They will travel to the Irish Cultural Center on November 5th for the first round of the CCRC playoffs against Plymouth State.
