Gulls Bow Out of CCC Tournament with Semifinals Loss to Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Endicott women's lacrosse team traveled to #2 Roger Williams on Wednesday afternoon for the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) semifinal. Despite their strong efforts the Gulls dropped a 15-6 decision. Endicott finishes the 2015 season at 11-6 (6-2 CCC) while the Hawks will advance to the CCC Championship and battle with #1 Western New England on Saturday.

The Blue and Green finish a great season with many accomplishments while ending their nine-year run as CCC Champions. The 2015 squad will graduate five seniors as we wish them the best of luck on their future endeavors.

Overall for the Gulls sophomore Meghan Lennon (Canton, Mass.) and senior Ellie Clayman (Beverly, Mass.) led with two goals while sophomore Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H.) led in points with three assists. For the Hawks, senior Kelsey Rahilly (East Longmeadow, Mass.) recorded an impressive seven assists and one goal while sophomore McKenna Everding (Fayetteville, N.Y.) tallied five goals in the victory.

Defensively sophomore Maura Grady (Marblehead, Mass.) played a stealthy game between the pipes for the Gulls making 12 saves on 27 shots. Her counterpart, sophomore Kimberly Bolk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) picked up the victory with six stops.

The first half was a battle as Roger Williams held just a 4-3 advantage heading into halftime. The Hawks got on the board first at the 19:01 mark as senior Deven Machette (Norwalk, Conn.) tallied the unassisted goal. Less than two minutes later senior Mackenzie Logan (Vernon, N.J.) would make it a 2-0 score with the help of Rahilly.

The Blue and Green would answer back as senior Kirsten Thor (Longmeadow, Mass.) made a play to goal with Whitney for the one goal game. Machette would counter with her second and final goal of the game to kick the lead back up to two. To end the half Endicott scored two goals in six minutes from freshman Erin McCarthy (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Clayman while the Hawks scored one more for the 4-3 score.

The second half was controlled by the Hawks as they picked up their offensive game outscoring the Gulls 11-3. In the opening 15 minutes of the half both sides were neck and neck as Lennon scored two crucial goals on free position opportunities. Roger Williams scored three in the opening time just holding a 7-5 lead with 15:47 to go in regulation.

The second portion of the half brought strong shooting from Roger Williams. After a pair of back to back goals for the Hawks, Clayman would tally the final Endicott goal of the game for the 9-6 score. The Hawks picked up their offense and closed out the game with six straight goals to hold on to the lead and claim the victory.

Roger Williams will make their second straight trip to the CCC title game after falling the Gulls last season at the buzzer.
