Gulls Soar to 21-2 Victory over Wentworth on the Road

BOSTON, Mass. – The Endicott women's lacrosse team traveled to Wentworth on Tuesday evening for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup. Behind the game-high four goals from freshman Erin McCarthy (Old Lyme, Conn.) the Gulls soared to a 21-2 victory. Endicott improves to 6-3 (2-1 CCC) while the Leopards fall to 2-4 (0-4 CCC).

Endicott will see the field next on Saturday, April 4th as they travel to #7 Bowdoin for a 3:00 p.m. draw. Wentworth will see action next on Thursday April 2nd as they host Fitchburg State for a 7:00 p.m. start time.

Overall the Blue and Green saw 12 different Gulls find the back of the net on 33 total shots. Sophomore Emily Whitney posted an impressive game as she totaled three goals and four assists to lead with seven points in the victory. On the defensive end senior Ellie Clayman (Beverly, Mass.) posted three caused turnovers, three draw controls and two groundballs while senior Siri Mason (Williamstown, Mass.) led the Gulls with four groundballs.

Endicott was strong on clears as they crossed the mark 16 times in their 18 attempts while holding the young Wentworth squad to 7-of-23.

The first half was completely controlled by the Gulls as they held a 13-2 advantage highlighted by 12 consecutive goals. During the scoring spree Whitney opened up with back to back goals while Clayman, Mason, sophomore Emily Cutting (Ferrisburgh, Vt.) and senior Kirsten Thor (Londmeadow, Mass.) each followed with their first of the game. At the 17:44 mark McCarthy started her scoring with back to back goals to take the 8-0 lead.

To wrap up the scoring spree Cutting, and Whitney each recorded one more goal while sophomore Meghan Lennon (Canton, Mass.) scored her first two goals of the game. The Leopards finally answered back at 9:17 when freshman Alissa Cirio (Valhalla, N.Y.) and senior Jessica Houghton (Billerica, Mass.) went back to back to get two goals on the board for the home team. Lennon would counter with her third goal of the half to close it out with a 13-2 advantage heading into halftime.

The second half brought eight Endicott goals while they held their CCC opponent to zero on just four shots. McCarthy would open up the half in the opening seconds off the draw for her third of the day. Sophomore Jessica Buckley (Mansfield, Mass.) would follow on a free-position shot to notch her lone goal of the game for the 15-2 lead by 26:16. McCarthy and Thor would each tally one more in the half allowing the Blue and Green to spread the wealth throughout the rest of the half.

To close out the game sophomores Abigail Hassett (Katonah, N.Y.), Sofia Filippi (Haddam, Conn.), and freshman duo Julianne Piatelli (Beverly, Mass.) and Cassidy Merrill (Buxton, Maine) would each find the back of the net to secure the 21-2 victory.

Between the pipes the Gulls split time between sophomore Maura Grady (Marblehead, Mass.) who posted 18:14 minutes and picking up one save while freshman Molly Lane (Durham, Maine) capped off the game with her 41:46 minutes and two saves. Their counterpart, senior Robyn Pcini (Stoneham, Mass.) posted nine saves in the tough loss on 30 Endicott shots.
