Gulls Improve to 5-1 in CCC Play with Road Victory at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – The Endicott women's lacrosse team traveled to cross-town rival Gordon on Tuesday afternoon for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup. Behind a team high four points from sophomore Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H.) the Gulls lifted to a 10-7 victory. Endicott improves to 9-4 (5-1 CCC) while the Fighting Scots fall to 7-7 (3-3 CCC).

Endicott will take the field next on Saturday, April 18th as they travel to CCC rival Western New England for their final road game of the regular season at 1:00 p.m. Gordon will see action next on Thursday, April 16th as they travel to non-conference opponent Worcester State for a 7:00 p.m. matchup.

Overall Whitney posted four points in the victory with three goals and one assist. Coming in close behind was senior Siri Mason (Williamstown, Mass.) who recorded two goals and one assist while senior Ellie Clayman (Beverly, Mass.) found the back of the net twice. For the Fighting Scots, sophomore Caroline Walton (Irvine, Calif.) recorded a game-high four goals to help keep the Fighting Scots in the game.

The Blue and Green opened up the game with six straight goals in just eight minutes. Whitney opened up the contest with help from sophomore Emily Cutting (Ferrisburgh, Vt.) at the 28:10 mark. Whitney would then help senior Kirsten Thor (Longmeadow, Mass.) tab her lone goal of the game less than 30 seconds later for the two goal lead.

Clayman, sophomore Meghan Lennon (Canton, Mass.), Whitney and Mason would then score another four goals combined in a five minute span to hold the impressive 5-0 lead. Gordon would finally break the scoring spree at 17:56 as junior Bailey Grinnell (South Hamilton, Mass.) found the back of the net on a solo play to goal.

Mason would quickly fire back with the help of Lennon to kick the lead back up to six with 6:51 remaining in the half. The Fighting Scots however battled back as Walton scored back to back goals on free position opportunities to make it a 7-3 game. Cutting would close out the half with her lone goal of the game with the Gulls owning an 8-3 lead heading into halftime.

The second half was a bit quieter as Gordon outscored the Blue and Green 4-2 to keep the game tight on the scoreboard. The Fighting Scots opened up the half with a free position goal by senior Abby Illian (Hillsdale, N.J.) to make it a four goal game.

Whitney would answer back five minutes later off her first free position goal of the game at the 23:36 mark. Walton would go on to score her third goal of the game with the help of Grinnell to cut down the lead to four with 18 minutes to play.

Clayman would tally the final Endicott goal of the night on a solo play for the 10-5 score and Gordon would work to get within reach with two final goals from Walton and senior Megan Avery (Rochester, N.H.) but it would not be enough as the Blue and Green held on to the lead.

Sophomore Maura Grady (Marblehead, Mass.) played 55 minutes making eight stops while freshman Molly Lane (Durham, Maine) came in for the final five minutes and made two stops. Their counterpart, sophomore Jackie Kiernan (Lexington, Mass.) posted six saves on 16 shots in the loss.
