Mason and Whitney Sweep CCC Weekly Awards

CCC Athletes of the Week (Week Ending April 26, 2015)

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has released their weekly awards and two members of the women's lacrosse team were recognized for their efforts last week. Senior Siri Mason (Williamstown, Mass.) claimed her first CCC Defensive Player of the Week nod of the season while sophomore Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H.) also tabbed her first CCC Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Last week the Blue and Green went 2-0 to improve to 11-5 (6-2 CCC) on the season. The squad earned a quarterfinal victory over the weekend and will travel to Roger Williams on Wednesday for the semifinals.

Whitney played an impressive week for the Gulls as she tallied five points in the regular season finale vs. Curry before earning another five in the CCC Quarterfinal triumph over Salve Regina. On her third goal of the day in the quarterfinals, the midfielder scored her career 100th goal as just a sophomore. In the regular season finale Whitney boasted a game-high four goals on just six shots. In the CCC Tournament win she scored three goals on just six shots on goal, while earning two caused turnovers.

Mason played an impressive defensive game this past week as a midfielder. She helped lift the Gulls to a 2-0 week while earning a victory in the opening round of the CCC Tournament. In the regular season finale the senior boasted three caused turnovers and four ground balls while also scoring a goal on her one shot on the day. In the CCC Quarterfinals with Salve Regina Mason forced two caused turnovers while picking up two ground balls in the triumph.
