No. 3 Men’s Tennis Outlasts No. 2 Roger Williams In CCC Semifinals, 5-4

BRISTOL, R.I. — The third-seeded Endicott men's tennis team defeated second-seeded Roger Williams (RWU), 5-4, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament Semifinals on Wednesday evening.

With the match tied at 4-4, George Danes (Old Lyme, Conn.) secured the championship berth with a highly contested 7(7)-6(4), 1-6, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.

Antonio Marsallo (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) deadlocked the match before Danes' heroics with a strong comeback performance at No. 2, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. 

Shortly before, No. 6 Hudson De Risi (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) supplied a 6-3, 7-6 triumph. 

The Gulls began the evening with a slim 2-1 advantage via a pair of identical 8-6 scores courtesy of No. 1 Marsallo / Conrad Kadel (Heidelberg, Germany)  and No. 2  De Risi / Julian Richtarich (Naples, Fla.).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Blue and Green will make their first CCC Championship appearance in program history.
  • The Gulls had four All-CCC honorees in Kadel, Marsallo, Danes, and Oliver Pope (South Dartmouth, Mass.) were announced by the league office yesterday.
  • Danes moves to 4-4 at the No. 3 position in the lineup.
  • The pairing of Marsallo / Kadel earned their team-best seventh doubles victory. 

WHAT'S NEXT

No. 3 Endicott (11-8) takes on No. 1 Nichols in the CCC Championship on Saturday, May 4 at a time TBD. No. 2 Roger Williams sees its season come to a close at 13-5 overall.
