Men’s Tennis Downs Wentworth, 8-1

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott men's tennis team defeated Wentworth, 8-1, in conference action on Sunday evening at the South Campus Tennis Courts.

In doubles, the Gulls took the No. 1 (8-2) and No. 3 spots (8-1) in convincing fashion thanks to the pairings of Antonio Marsallo (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) / Conrad Kadel (Heidelberg, Germany) and Aaron Terpko (Shrewsbury, Mass.) / George Danes (Old Lyme, Conn.).

Terpko carried Endicott's momentum into singles play with a swift victory at No. 6 (6-3, 6-1) to make it a 3-1 advantage in favor of the hosts.

From there, Danes boosted the lead to 4-1 at No. 3 (6-2, 6-2) before Hudson De Risi (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) clinched the match at No. 5 (6-4, 6-1). 

Kadel posted a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 1, Marsallo earned a gritty 2-6, 6-1, 10-7 victory at No. 2, and Oliver Pope (South Dartmouth, Mass.) rounded out the list of winners at No. 4 (7-6 (7-4), 6-3).

"Mentally, it was the most healthy focus we've brought to a match all season," said Endicott men's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo. "The men should enjoy this one, along with their day off tomorrow."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is 3-1 at home this season.
  • Marsallo and Kadel improved to 4-4 as a doubles pairings today.
  • Marsallo also leads the team in singles wins with seven.

Endicott (7-7, 3-2 CCC) visits Suffolk on Wednesday, April 17 at 6:30 PM. Wentworth (7-8, 2-3 CCC) travels to Curry next Wednesday at 3:30 PM.
