CCC PLAYOFFS: No. 4 Endicott Takes On No. 5 Wentworth This Saturday (12 PM)

BEVERLY, Mass. – The fourth-seeded Endicott baseball team will take on fifth-seeded Wentworth in Newport, Rhode Island in game one of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament on Saturday at 12 PM. Here's a preview of the Gulls' matchup versus the Leopards.

THE BRACKET (double-elimination): The winner between Endicott and Wentworth will advance to play No. 1 Salve Regina at 3 PM on Saturday. Meanwhile, on Sunday, the losers of both previously mentioned games will play in a winner-take-all matchup on Sunday at noon prior to the two winners squaring off at 3 PM. Lastly, if an if-necessary game is needed it will be played on Monday at the highest remaining seed.

THE MATCHUP: Endicott is 36-9 all-time against Wentworth, which includes its current nine-game winning streak versus the Leopards dating back to 5/2/14. Against Salve Regina, Endicott is 27-31 all-time.

SCOUTING ENDICOTT (24-14): The Gulls enter Saturday's playoffs with a 13-4 record on the road (0-0 neutral site games). Endicott currently ranks among the conference's best in the following categories: runs (4th, 203), hits (4th, 310), runs batted in (4th, 169), walks (5th, 122), stolen bases (3rd, 86), average (8th, .266), on-base percentage (8th, .353), slugging percentage (6th, 3.58), strikeouts per nine innings (5th, 6.56), and earned run average (3rd, 3.86).

SCOUTING WENTWORTH (13-16): The Leopards are 5-7 on the road this season and 4-4 in neutral site games. Wentworth currently ranks among the conference's best in the following categories: runs (8th, 147), hits (8th, 239), runs batted in (8th, 127), walks (9th, 98), stolen bases (8th, 40), average (4th, .286), on-base percentage (4th, .377), slugging percentage (3rd, .372), strikeouts per nine innings (t-7th, 6.00), and earned run average (8th, 5.96).

SCOUTING SALVE REGINA (23-13): The Seahawks are 12-3 at home this season and have won three out of their last five games. Salve Regina currently ranks among the conference's best in the following categories: runs (2nd, 233), hits (3rd, 336), runs batted in (2nd, 200), walks (2nd, 162), stolen bases (2nd, 87), average (1st, .301), on-base percentage (2nd, .402), slugging percentage (2nd, .389), strikeouts per nine innings (1st, 10.02), and earned run average (5th, 4.96).

WHAT'S NEXT

The winner of this weekend's pod will play the winner of the No. 6 Gordon/No. 3 Western New England/No. 2 Roger Williams pod in a best of three series on Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12 – hosted by the highest remaining seed – to determine the CCC champion.
