CCC TOURNAMENT: No. 4 Endicott Tops No. 5 Wentworth, 15-3

NEWPORT, R.I. – The fourth-seeded Endicott baseball team defeated fifth-seeded Wentworth, 15-3, in game one of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Brother Michael Reynolds Field on the campus of Salve Regina University.

Endicott scored 12 runs total over the first five innings and never looked back.

Brendan McDonald (Quincy, Mass.) paced the Gulls going 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a three-run homer, and seven RBI. His RBI total ranks second all-time (tied) in a single game in program history. Meanwhile, Kyle Brennan (Wallingford, Conn.) launched a three-run homer and Michael DeDonato (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Matthew McKinley (Hudson, N.H.) both drove in two runs apiece to highlight the rest of the offense.

Will Ferreira (Nantucket, Mass.) earned the win (5-3) on 7 2/3 innings pitched, nine hits, three runs (all earned), one walk and four strikeouts.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott improved to 37-9 in the all-time series against Wentworth.
  • The Gulls also extended their winning streak to 10 straight over the Leopards.
  • DeDonato went 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. It marks his 20th multi-hit game of the season and ninth multi-RBI game of the 2018 campaign.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (25-14) will play No. 1 Salve Regina at 3:15 PM (approximately). The winner of the game will advance to the winners' bracket of Pod A and need one win to move on to the CCC Championship Series next week (May 11-12).
