No. 23 Endicott Downs Bates, 12-4

BEVERLY, Mass. – The No. 23 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team turned in a 12-4 non-conference victory over Bates College on Tuesday evening at North Field.

Joseph Oriola (Pembroke, Mass.) earned the win (1-1) on six innings pitched, four hits, one run (unearned), four walks and seven strikeouts. Cooper Anibal (Bedford, N.H.) also tossed a scoreless seventh inning, while Zachary Sultar (South Windsor, Conn.) polished off the final two frames recording three strikeouts along the way.

Bates' starter Connor Speed (San Diego, Calif.) took the loss (0-3) via 1 2/3 innings, six hits, five runs (one earned), one walk and zero strikeouts.

Endicott scored early and often putting up two different four-run innings (second/eighth) en route to its fifth straight win. In the second inning, Nickolas Perkins (Nashua, N.H.) highlighted the frame with a two-run triple to dead center field, while the Gulls also saw Michael DeDonato (Chelmsford, Mass.), Michael Casciano (Somers, Conn.), and Perkins notch RBIs in the eighth inning.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls are ranked No. 23 in the latest American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division III Poll.
  • Endicott's 1-5 hitters all had multi-hit games.
  • Matt Bald (De Pere, Wisc.) finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored out of the leadoff spot, while DeDonato was 4-for-5 with two RBI in the two-hole.
  • Casciano followed with a 3-for-4, two run, two RBI line and Perkins was 2-for-3 with three RBI and walk.
  • Brendan McDonald (Quincy, Mass.) concluded the group going 2-for-5 at the plate with one run scored and one RBI.
  • As a team, the Gulls went 7-for-15 in RBI situations (.467).

FOR THE FOES

  • Bates scored one run in the second on a sacrifice fly via Giovanni Torres (North Haven, Conn.) and three more in the ninth on a bases loaded hit by pitch, a run-producing single to center from Dan Trulli (Melrose, Mass.) and a fielder's choice RBI.
  • Kyle Carter (Plantation, Fla.) highlighted the Bobcats offensively going 2-for-3 with two walks.

No. 23 Endicott (8-1) hosts Southern Maine tomorrow at 3:30 PM. Bates (3-7) visits Bowdoin on Friday, March 30 at 3 PM.
