Salem State Bests Endicott In Slugfest, 11-10

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott baseball team lost to Salem State University, 11-10, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at North Field.

Justin Horvath (Saugus, Mass.) earned the win (1-1) on four innings of relief, four hits, and two runs (one earned), while Ed Duran (Salem, Mass.) picked up his third save of the season with a clean ninth.

Alexander Mandrus (Acton, Mass.) took the loss (5-1) via one inning pitched, two hits, and two runs (one earned). 

Down 9-8 in the top of the seventh, the Vikings rallied for two runs in the frame on an RBI double from Madoc Fisher (Wayne, N.J.) and an RBI single by Mac Daniel Singleton (Everett, Mass.) to take a 10-9 lead. 

Salem State also added an insurance run in the eighth, which proved to be the difference, via an RBI single from Joe White (Bellingham, Mass.).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Salem State evened its road record to 4-4 on the season.
  • Michael DeDonato (Chelmsford, Mass.) went 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. It marks DeDonato's 19th multi-hit game and eighth multi-RBI game this season.
  • Matthew McKinley (Hudson, N.H.) tied his career-high for RBI with three today (1-for-3, double, 3 RBI).

WHAT'S NEXT

Fourth-seeded Endicott (24-14) takes on fifth-seeded Wentworth on Saturday, May 5 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament, hosted by Salve Regina, at 12 PM. Salem State (20-17) hosts Fitchburg State in the MASCAC Tournament tomorrow at 3 PM.
