DUDLEY, Mass. — The Nichols women's tennis team repeated as Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) champions on Saturday afternoon with a 5-1 victory over Endicott at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
Nichols opened the match by sweeping all three doubles flights with back-to-back 8-4 victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, respectively, and an 8-3 win at No. 2 to complete the sweep.
In singles, the Bison produced a 6-4, 6-0 triumph at the No. 1 position to take a 4-0 lead in the match before Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.) put Endicott on the scoreboard with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4. Nichols answered back, however, with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 2 position to clinch the match, and its third CCC championship in program history (2010, 2016, 2017).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Today's meeting marked the sixth time out of the last seven seasons Endicott and Nichols have met in the CCC Championship match. Endicott holds a 5-2 advantage in the all-time series.
- Nichols remained undefeated at home with today's victory (9-0).
WHAT'S NEXT
Nichols (14-2) will represent the CCC in the NCAA Division III Tournament in the spring. Endicott sees its fall season come to a close at 10-3 overall.
