BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott freshman Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.) and sixth-year head coach Jeremy Howard headlined a group of five student-athletes who were recognized on the 2017 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) All-Conference teams today by earning Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year honors, respectively.
Hartman now joins Melissa Marrone as the only student-athletes in program history to earn Rookie of the Year accolades. Hartman produced a 7-3 record in singles and an 8-1 mark in doubles to earn the award, in addition to garnering All-CCC Singles First Team and All-CCC Doubles First Team honors for her efforts in her first-year campaign.
Meanwhile, Howard collects his fourth CCC Coach of the Year award since his arrival in Beverly during the 2012-13 season. Throughout his six years at the helm of the program, Howard has compiled an 83-27 (.755) overall record and a 44-4 (.917) conference mark, captured four CCC championships, and guided the program to four NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, which includes three second round appearances as well.
ALL-CCC FIRST TEAM SINGLES
Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.)
Barnett registered a 7-2 record this season, including a 6-1 mark in league play, all at No. 1 singles for the Gulls. Barnett is now a three-time All-CCC First Team Singles selection.
Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.)
Hartman notched a 7-3 singles record including a 2-0 showing at No. 1 position and a 5-3 mark at No. 2.
All-CCC SECOND TEAM SINGLES
Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.)
Fitzgibbons went 5-3 overall with all of her matches played at the No. 3 position. Four of Fitzgibbons' five wins in singles came against conference foes including Salve Regina, Wentworth, Eastern Nazarene, and Gordon. Fitzgibbons is now a two-time All-CCC Singles selection (one second team, one third).
Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.)
Freter produced the most wins in singles out of anyone in the Gulls' lineup this fall with a 10-1 record. Freter went 2-0 at No. 2, 1-0 at No. 3, 6-1 at No. 4, and 1-0 at No. 5. Freter also did not lose a conference match (8-0) all season. Meanwhile, in her career, Freter has claimed two All-CCC Third Team Singles accolades and one second team honor.
All-CCC FIRST TEAM DOUBLES
Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) | Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.)
Bergstein/Hartman compiled an 8-1 record on the season, all at the No. 1 position. In conference play, the duo went 7-0 with marquee wins against Nichols (8-0) and Gordon (8-5). Bergstein has now collected three All-CCC First Team Doubles honors, while Fitzgibbons earned her first career honor.
All-CCC SECOND TEAM DOUBLES
Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) | Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.)
Barnett/Fitzgibbons went 10-1 on the year (2-0 No. 1, 8-1 No. 2), which included an unblemished 8-0 record in conference play. Barnett now has three All-CCC Doubles honors to her credit (one first team, two second team), while Fitzgibbons picked up her first career award.
WHAT'S NEXT
Second-seeded Endicott will play the winner of No. 6 Western New England and No. 3 Roger Williams on Tuesday, October 17 in the CCC Semifinals at a time to be determined later.
