Endicott Captures Fourth Straight Win in North Shore Showdown

WENHAM, Mass. - The Endicott women's tennis team warded off a late singles rally by CCC and North Shore Cup rival Gordon on Wednesday afternoon as the Gulls won their fourth straight conference match to remain unbeaten in league play. Endicott is now 5-1 overall and 4-0 in their CCC schedule thanks to senior captain Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.), junior Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.), and sophomore Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) who were all a part of singles and doubles victories over their Scots opponents. 

The Blue and Green continue a three-match road stretch with another North Shore Cup showdown with non-conference rival Salem State on Thursday, September 18th at 3:30 pm. In their 2013 regular season meeting, Endicott defeated Salem State 8-1 on their home courts. 

Endicott's doubles teams swept through the first three matches to own a 3-0 lead early on. Senior captain Chrissy Martel (Westbrook, Conn.) and Newman won their #2 doubles flight 8-2 over junior Lily Drescher (Reading, Mass.) and sophomore Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.). Number three doubles duo of Rhodes and Gulls newcomer Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) finished second by defeating Gordon freshmen Alexa DiDomizio (Mahwah, N.J.) and Nathalia Moran (Lake Villa, Ill.) 8-3. Endicott's top doubles team of Heacox and freshman Dayna Reilly (Swansea, Mass.) secured the 3-0 lead by handing junior Tawnie Yeaw (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and freshman Sophie Linnell (Richmond, Va.) an 8-3 loss. 

Singles action saw the Scots crawl back into the match as Linnell and sophomore Liann Van Volkinburg (Chillicothe, Ohio) won two out of the first three flights to finish via the #2 and #6 singles matches. Linnell defeated Reilly 6-2, 6-0 at #2 singles and Van Volkinburg beat Bergstein 6-3, 6-2 at #6 singles. 

In between the two Gordon wins, Rhodes was able to beat Gordon's Moran in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. With the overal match score sitting at 4-2 in Endicott's favor, the Gulls were able to secure their fourth straight win on Heacox's 7-5, 6-4 #1 singles match up with Yeaw. Newman, the reigning CCC Player of the Week continued her strong junior season with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at #3 singles for Endicott's final point of the match. 

Caron won the final singles flight of the match, overcoming a 6-1 first set loss to Gulls junior Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.) to take sets two and three 6-3, 6-2 to win #4 singles.
