PLYMOUTH, NH - Plymouth State University and Endicott College split the six singles tennis matches Saturday afternoon, but the visiting Gulls captured the 6-3 team victory on the strength of sweeping the three doubles matches.
Endicott went up in the contest by winning the doubles matches outdoors to start the day. Rain forced the competition inside, where the two teams battled to a draw in the singles. Five of the six singles matches went to a third set.
Winners for PSU included sophomore Meghan Rodier (Francestown, N.H.) at No. 2 singles, junior Joan Kietzman (Plymouth, N.H.) at No. 5, and junior Briley Boisvert (Goffstown, N.H.) at No. 6.
Endicott got singles wins from seniors Carli Conners, Nicole Breting, and sophomore Lori Wardner, and doubles wins from Brianne Cogan/Breting, Jenna Carme/Kate Fiske and Conners/Wardner.
PSU, 0-2, plays its Little East Conference opener next Saturday at UMass Dartmouth (1:00 PM). Endicott, 2-1, is back in action Tuesday at Wentworth (4:00 PM).
