Walecka Guides Gulls at ECAC DIII New England Championships

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.-  Alex Walecka (North Dartmouth, Mass.) was the lead runner for the Gulls at the ECAC DIII New England Championships as he and Mitchell Renfrew (Barkhamsted, Conn.) completed successful seasons for Endicott.  The men's 8K race was held at Mount Greylock High and featured 287 runners.

Both runners were able to finish with times under 32 minutes as they continued to show personal improvement and growth.  Walecka, the top Endicott men's runner in every meet this season, finished in a time of 30:14 as he crossed the line 150th.  Renfrew finished 204th place as he was able to cross the line in 31:53.  

For the women's program, Kim Shepherd (Essex, Conn.) was once again the top runner as the senior finished less than two minutes off the winning time.  With 284 runners in the field, Shepherd finished in 35th with a time of 24:28 to lead the Gulls to a 19th place finish out of 41 teams.  Shepherd has now finished as the top female runner in every meet this season.

Sophomore Erin Haynes finished in 91st place with a time of 25:38 as she finished her impressive first year running.  Rounding out the top five for the Gulls were Jocelyn Kane (East Longmeadow, Mass.), Jillian Mendes (Waterbury Center, Vt.) and Holly Davis (Guilford, Conn.).  Kane finished in 117th with a time of 26:07.  Mendes and Davis were close behind as they crossed in 26:45 and 27:02.  Shelby Woodworth (Hutchinson, Minn.) rounded out the scoring for the Gulls as the sophomore finished in a time of 28:10.
